A convincing VHS photo effect is more than placing horizontal lines over a clean picture. Tape-era video combines limited detail, softened color, analog noise, uneven brightness, and small channel alignment errors. The effect works best when these signals support one another without hiding the subject.

What creates the VHS look?
The important ingredients are:
- Faded color: slightly lower saturation avoids the polished modern-camera look.

Second, do not add excessive noise when file size matters. Random detail can make JPEG or WebP encoding less efficient.
Third, do not assume PNG quality can be lowered with a slider. PNG is lossless. Use resolution and visual effects, or export JPEG or WebP when you want lossy artifacts.
