What the 144p preset changes
The preset targets:
- a maximum video height of 144 pixels;
- about 150 kbps video bitrate;
- 15 frames per second; and

These are requested targets, not exact promises. Browser encoders can normalize values, choose different internal behavior, or reject a container/codec combination.
Step-by-step 144p video workflow

Do not assume that a visible preview proves the download is valid. The completed file should play from beginning to end, include the expected duration, and contain audio when audio was requested and supported.
Preserve the important part of the frame
At 144p, small text, distant faces, and interface details disappear quickly. Start with a source whose subject occupies a large part of the frame. If the clip contains subtitles, replace them with larger text before processing or choose a less destructive height such as 240p.
The tool preserves aspect ratio inside the target dimensions. It does not stretch every video into a fixed 256 by 144 rectangle.
Bitrate and frame rate change different things
Resolution limits spatial detail. Bitrate limits how much encoded data is available for each second. Frame rate controls temporal detail. A static talking-head clip may tolerate a low bitrate better than fast motion. A 15 fps result looks choppy even when each frame is reasonably clean.
If the result is unreadable, raise resolution first. If motion breaks apart, raise bitrate. If movement feels too choppy, raise frame rate.

Why file size cannot be guaranteed
Duration, motion, codec, audio, container, bitrate behavior, and encoder support all affect the result. A 144p label alone does not guarantee a particular number of megabytes. Inspect the actual downloaded file.
