Presets first, controls when you need them
For an 8-bit sound, choose 8-bit PCM and lower the processing sample rate before adding distortion or low-pass filtering. Cursed Mic combines those controls with mono output and stronger distortion. The result stays PCM WAV rather than claiming a compressed bitrate the tool does not create.
A downloadable result you can inspect
After processing finishes, listen to Original and Worse, then check the actual PCM WAV sample rate, channel count, and bit depth in the result details before downloading. Browser rendering may normalize a sample-rate target it cannot use exactly.

What does the Cursed Mic preset do?
Cursed Mic combines mono output, 8-bit sample detail, strong distortion, a lower sample rate, and low-pass filtering to imitate an overloaded cheap microphone or badly compressed voice chat.
Can I make 8-bit or retro game audio?
Yes. Choose 8-bit PCM, lower the processing sample rate, and add distortion or low-pass filtering as needed. The download remains an uncompressed PCM WAV.
Can I make phone, radio, or old voice-chat audio?
Yes. Mono output, a lower sample rate, distortion, and a low-pass cutoff can imitate a narrow phone speaker, cheap headset, radio, or older voice-chat sound.
Why can the actual sample rate differ from my setting?
The requested sample rate is a processing target. Browser audio rendering can normalize unsupported values, so the completed result reports the actual PCM WAV sample rate used.
Why does v1 download a WAV file?
PCM WAV is the browser-safe fallback and does not require a compressed audio encoder. It is widely playable but can be larger than MP3, AAC, or Opus at the same duration.
Can I choose mono, stereo, or the PCM bit depth?
Yes. You can request mono or stereo and 8-bit or 16-bit PCM. The completed result reports the actual sample rate, channel count, and bit depth encoded in the WAV file.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. Audio processing and export happen locally in your browser. Anonymous coarse analytics do not include the recording, filename, transcript, waveform, or audio bytes.
